We’re proud to announce the release of the Winter 2011 edition of The Informer. This issue is dedicated to the devastating condition of fecal incontinence. Here’s an excerpt from this publication:

Perhaps the most debilitating thing about incontinence is the psychological effect that it has on people. Many people who begin to experience involuntary leakage of urine or feces experience profound embarrassment, which can be so severe that they can’t bring themselves to reveal their symptoms to their physician or to seek information about how to manage their problem effectively. Beneath these difficulties is the idea that people look down on anyone who cannot control their bladder or bowels. This fear of other people’s reactions is the essence of the stigma of incontinence.

This summer, The Canadian Continence Foundation will shine some sun on a topic many feel more comfortable keeping in the dark. On Friday, August 27, 2010, uncover answers to the questions about incontinence and bladder health you may shy away from asking at the first Public Forum in Toronto, hosted by the International Continence Society/Continence Promotion Committee and The Canadian Continence Foundation.

Move away from the confines of the doctor’s office, and hear from world-renowned experts over a bladder-friendly cocktail in a comfortable, supportive environment. Learn about the latest treatment options; practical tips for living with incontinence and overactive bladder; physical and emotional repercussions for male and female sufferers and ways to lessen negative impact; what men can expect following prostate surgery; and key resources you should not be living without.
